For Saturdays dinner I harvested all the peas that were ready and ended up with 11oz of peas. I don't really have the space to grow a lot of peas so they are always low yielding. With my 4' row I usually end up with two pickings with each one being enough for one meal. They are certainly worth the space though as fresh peas are so sweet. Previously I hated peas until I tried freshly hulled ones and now I am converted. These peas were boiled for a couple minutes and tossed in butter and S&P. The second picking will be made into a Pea Risotto which should make it into Thursdays Garden Meal if they are ready in time.
Matron over at Down on the Allotment is hosting Matron's Worldwide Veggie Show 2009. To participate you take a photo of six veggies that are a uniform shape, size & colour and submit it to her at Ahhmatron@aol.com All the photos will be judged on July 14 and a winner will be selected. Should be fun! The photo above is the photo I am submitting. Everyone should join in and see who ends up top of class.

That picture of beans is amazing. It looks like something a seed company would pay money for to show off their varieties.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried growing tall peas? I find the tall ones really produce a lot more in the same amount of space and they keep producing for a longer period of time. They need a good trellis however. I've given up on the shorter peas. Love the pea photo.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos as always, Dan. I was so looking forward to that tomato... :( ....
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful plate! What variety of peas are they?
ReplyDeleteIt's summer fair season, that's for sure. I like the staged photo -- very calendar-worthy.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to plant a whole bunch of peas this fall. Risotto sounds like a perfect summer meal!
wow, love the pic!
ReplyDeleteHi Dan! Those peas look so delicious! You are so right, there is just nothing like fresh shelled peas. They are so sweet -- don't taste anything like frozen or canned ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat entry Dan! I am wrestling over what I am going to submit. Nothing ever seems to come in uniform sizes and colors - let alone six of them! I was thinking about my peas too but how can I top your gorgeous plate and presentation?! LOL! Hmmm... if only the zucchini were more uniform in size.
