Some snow finally

Woke up this morning to our first true covering of snow. It's been a long time coming, no snow in November and only a few dustings in December. We received about 2-3 inches which is just enough to fire up the snowblower. I am still waiting on the first big snowfall of the year, then I can shoot snow 40' in the air :-)

I have not checked on the winter veg for a while. The last time I looked everything was quite frozen. Saturday is supposed to bring -15c (5f) weather which should really freeze things up. The good news is late next week it is going about freezing so maybe I can harvest something finally.

  2. Now that snow is something to holler white bread and milk over.

  3. LeighAnn - Snow does make for nice landscapes in the winter. I could live without it though!

Ribbbit - This snow is nothing compared to what we can get. Some times it is 12" deep or more per storm. Like on this post:

  4. Shooting snow 40' in the air sounds kinda fun! But not fun enough to make me want to live with snow... I'm a weather wimp.

  5. That's it ? Ha ! Not worth taking the snowblower out if you ask me. I like doing the light stuff by hand. It's good clean exercise. Snowblowing is stinky and noisy. Pwoa ! Luckily, I've only had to use the blower twice so far this year !

Looks like it's gonna be a pretty snowless winter in your parts, Dan. Good for you !

  6. You can have some of my snow. We had a light dusting today. We really didn't need it. We still have a foot on the ground.

  7. Michelle - The cold does take some getting use to and with lots of layers. I could definitely live without it.

Miss M - I would shovel but the laneway is between our house and the neighbors. The only way to clear it is to push it straight down over 60 feet before you can put it to the side. It was quite a challenge before we had the blower.

Daphne - I think I could do without a foot :-) Maybe another 4 inches.

  8. Oh how pretty is that! The snow layer looks lovely, hope it isn't too much of a bother when you have to clean it up. You have frozen veg, and mine are roasted! First major heatwave of the summer has hit, 41 on Monday FUN! Then again my folks in Adelaide have 3 days of 43 coming up! Just plain wrong.

  10. Everything looks quite frozen - but the snow does add a charm to the winter landscape. Since we moved from Central Washington to Western Washington, I have really been enjoying relatively snowless winters (occassional but infrquent events on this side of the state due to the ocean and Puget Sound influences).

  12. Prue - I could take 41c right now :-)

Veg Heaven - Yes, unfortunately it will last a lot longer in our yard then yours. Asides from a few melts we will be frozen until April.

KitsapFG - It would be nice to have snowless winters but yes it does look nice in the landscape.

Sunny - We get quite snowy winters because we are surrounded by the great lakes. This year has been the exception up to this point.

  14. I'm surprised that you haven't received as much snow as we have so far this year. I always imagined Canada to be a much older place...I guess that's a mindset that many of us Americans have I guess.

I dropped off your package at the post office yesterday. Who knew mailing something to Canada would be so easy????

  15. Kelli - We have been lucky to have missed most of the early snow. I hope we don't pay for it later...

Thomas - We are in the southern part of Ontario, surround by the great lakes. Because of this our winters are quite moderate compared to northern and central Canada. With that said, it does get quite cold here and we usually receive a good amount of snow. I will keep an eye out for your package.
