First Seed Order Arrived

I was googling Opal Creek Golden Snap Peas and came across Adaptive Seeds. They have a good selection of interesting things in addition to the snap peas so I ordered a few things.

  • Opal Creek Golden Snap Pea - golden coloured, fleshy pods
  • Ear of the Devil Lettuce - Deer tongue shaped leaves with red tones, Slow to bolt.
  • Red Fennel - Danish variety, hardy
  • Pustagold Pepper - Sweet hungarian pepper, starts out cream coloured and turns from orange to red when ripe.
  • Elefantenrussel Pepper - Yellow cayenne pepper, long slender fruit.
I still need to place a few more orders which I am hoping to complete soon to beat the rush. There is a few things to order from Pine Tree, a couple things from Seed Savers Exchange if they every come out of back order and the seed potato order. Planting is really coming up soon, the onions will be seeded late January. The cycle starts again...

  2. Miss M - I was not about to find any pictures of red fennel, just the bronze one. It will be interesting to see how red it actually is.

  4. I'm growing the red fennel. It produces seeds the first year and is then supposed to produce "bulbs" the second year. The seeds are very aromatic and tasty. I just cut the seed stalks down a few of weeks ago and new shoots are growing. I've yet to see if the shoots make good bulbs. The foliage was a bronzy red the first year. I'll be interested to see how it grows for you and how you like it.

  5. You always select such interesting varieties. A small amount of my purchased seeds arrived yesterday but I am expecting the rest to show up just about any day now. A week from this Saturday... I will be getting the onion seedlings started - which kicks off the whole spring seed starting cycle and schedule! In the meantime, I am going to try and keep myself occupied by doing a small garden related shop project this coming weekend. It's necessary to keep myself occupied so that I am not tempted to start too early with things. ;)

  10. Great selection; I'd be curious to see how to snaps turn out. I haven't had such great luck these past two years with the sugar snaps I've sown.
