Harvest Monday

Here goes another addition of Harvest Monday. It has been a slow garden this year but things are picking up now.

These are the first tomatoes of the season, a handful of
Sungold Cherry Tomatoes. Looks like by next Monday I
should have actual full sized heirloom tomatoes.

A full basket of Dragon Tongue beans. These always do well
in the garden. Looks like my Blue Lake pole beans are still
taking their sweet ass time.

Two quarts of cucumbers were ready for harvest. This basket includes
Adam Gherkin F1 and Rocky F1, both are Parthenocarpic varieties.

This evening I harvested my Cascade Hops. This is their
second year and they are doing very well. They will be dried
and used to make beer. I am still waiting on the Nugget
and Goldings hops to mature.

Lastly the first head of Broccoli. These took ages this year
and are coming in kind of strange. It would appear broccoli
does not like cold springs followed by hot humid summers.

  1. Yay! Cascade hops!! They look awesome. Mine, in their first year, are just starting to produce cones. They're like little babies. I just want them to be delicious now!

Also, i love the bokeh in the first shot. Nicely done :)

  3. You are undoubtedly setting some kind of record for cucumber production this year! Glad your tomatoes are starting to ramp up production.

  4. Beautiful photos. The broccoli-well, let's just say it's been a difficult year.
I'm surprised with all the heat this year that we're ALL still waiting around for the first BIG tomato. Thank goodness for the cherry type.......

  5. I see more pickles in your future. Just too hot and dry for most veggies after that wet cold spring.

  6. Hot summer? Not here, not this year. My broccoli isn't complaining about anything but invading oak tree roots. But my tomatoes are sulking in a big way, green and hard and hardly there. Your harvests look great, the hops are so pretty and I always enjoy seeing your beautiful bean harvests.

  7. How neat growing the hops! Some of my Cauliflower heads did the same thing as your broccoli seems to be doing.

  12. You have to write a post on making beer. I remember my dad did that when I was growing up but I really don't remember how he did it.

  15. Dan, what an interesting variety you have there. I haven't grown sungold this year, it is one of my favourites on taste alone. A very close second is the small chocolate cherry tomato. Excellent flavour.
