Early this morning there was a lunar eclipse. From what I have read, The last lunar eclipse that fell on the winter solstice was back in 1638, a rare occurrence for sure. I took some photos of the eclipse, both outside and from a second story window. Below are three of the best photos, a little grainy but not bad for a cheap 300mm lens:

Eerie, isn't it? Happy un-equinox to you!
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots! Unfortunately, we had cloudy skies in Maine.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Dan!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I was planning to wake up to see the eclipse...slept right through it
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you shared these! We had heavy overcast skies so were denied the opportunity to see this event. Your photos are stunning though and now I get to see what I missed. What a strange and interesting phenomenon.
ReplyDeleteThose are great shots! The moon was half obscured when I went to bed, but I couldn't stay awake long enough to see the whole show.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Seems a lot of ppl had cloudy skies, including us. I would have slept right through it anyway! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you posted these..they are great shots!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I thought about it, but it was cloudy when I went to bed, so just slept through it all. It was snowing when I went to bed.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got a perfect view! We had some clouds obstructing our view. Your camera is awesome for getting those shots!

We looked out for the eclipse too, in Hampshire, UK, but our sky was too overcast and we didn't see it. What a shame. These things don't happen very frequently.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures you snapped...
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas...
Beautiful! Wouldn't you know we'd have one of our very rare cloudy nights, so we missed the red moon.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos Dan! I heard about this on the radio but didn't see it myself.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, thank you for sharing, unfortunately not visible here in Perth, Western Australia. Irma from urbanveggies.blogspot.com
