Harvest Monday

Here is my first harvest for 2011. Some bean sprouts grown in my Homemade Bean Sprouter. I don't grow these often mainly because it can take up to a week for them to be ready. They are really easy to grow though if you plan your stir-fry a week in advance.... They do taste extremely good compared to store bought sprouts. I find they have a much sweeter taste compared to the starchy/rancid store bought sprouts.

  1. They look great. In fact you've just re-enthused me to get my sprouting jar out again. I started with great gusto when I first got the kits and they have been dormant for a couple of months. Your beautiful photo of sprouts was a good reminder! Mung beans are now soaking in a kitchen in Sydney!

  2. Homegrown sprouts are definitely much more superior to the store bought variety.

  3. We eat a lot of mung bean sprouts but we've never tried by ourselves. Definitely will give a try see if it works for us.

  4. Lovely to eat something you've grown at this time of year! (I'm reduced to leeks when I want home grown, but rhubarb will follow soon.)

  8. Those sure look good. I keep saying I am going to start doing sprouts in winter and then never get around to it. I really need to refresh my knowledge on how to do it and get a start on it.

  10. I like sprouts too. I never really plan that far in advance, but when they are ready it means it is stirfry night.
