Harvests have been good since my last post but they have started to wane now. Our first frost generally hits in mid October, at that point all I will have in the garden is rutabaga, celery and possible broccoli if it starts producing again. I'm wishing I put in more cool season crops at this point. <br />
<br />
I have already started planning for next year, in particular about tomatoes. I planted two hybrid paste tomatoes and four heirloom tomatoes this year. The hybrids look great and are pumping out the fruit. The heirlooms on the other hand are covered in blight, even the fruit is covered on a few. This winter I am going to find a few hybrid slicing tomatoes to replace half the heirlooms. There has to be a hybrid tomato that tastes as good as an heirloom, so far I have looked at Pink Beauty F1 from Johnny's. Anyone have any suggestions for a good tasting and disease resistant F1?<br />
<br />
Here are the photos in no particular order: <br />

Here is the garden at present. As usual it is a solid mass of veggies this time of year. What is not common is the garden is still not very productive. In-fact this may be the worst year on record (still no tomatoes....). Likely it is due to the weather being below seasonal since the spring. So I will just take what I can this year and hope for a better yield next year. Here goes some individual photos of each bed:<br />

<b>Bean bed.</b> This year the dry beans have done well but all the other beans have not. Today I rounded up some harvest photos. Harvests have been slow this year. Currently the tomatoes are the size of ping-pong balls and I have one cucumber that is ready to harvest. Not to mention the slow growing pumpkins, melons, beans and peppers. It does look like things will pick in August at least. Here are some of this years harvest shots:<br />

Here goes a quick update on the garden: Currently I have two empty beds after harvesting the garlic and clearing the lettuce out. When it cools off this weekend I am going to plant some fall crops. For starters I am going to plant some dry beans and a couple rows of parsnips. Then weather permitting I will start planting some greens/lettuce/kale again, this might have to wait until later in August if it stays hot. <br />
<br />
Happy Gardening Everyone,<br />

Today seemed like a good day to update on the veggie patch. The remaining warm season crops were planted between the end of May and Beginning of June. The last few days all the beans started breaking ground. Things are progressing slowly this year! I do hope everything start growing a little faster soon. Here are a series of photos of the garden:<br />

In other news: This month I also completed the last section of fence in the yard, all 36" of it. If you have been reading here for a while you may recall I started fencing the yard in the Fall of 2008. Section by section and with a little neglect mixed in it is finally complete! </div>

It appears we are in the clear now weather wise. Seems to have been a long time coming this year hasn't it?
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilQoUmHkTNkkKffrsuyNj46XQmmIlB_b_sHcyGopKXuFyh-7MXg_50I61Ue2S8MBky_V_PxlWXqkE5STBxnt0Q-xrkyfE_Mt87e4nbnHVITrzS9gUCVhYrEvf8SAaJRXmvwNYZEcFnAcA/s1600/IMG_8782.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilQoUmHkTNkkKffrsuyNj46XQmmIlB_b_sHcyGopKXuFyh-7MXg_50I61Ue2S8MBky_V_PxlWXqkE5STBxnt0Q-xrkyfE_Mt87e4nbnHVITrzS9gUCVhYrEvf8SAaJRXmvwNYZEcFnAcA/s640/IMG_8782.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I started by putting in the peas I started at the end of March. They were planted it peat pots so I made sure to plant the pot below ground. They have a tendency to dry out quickly if any of the pot is above ground. This year I am using old chicken wire and bamboo canes for support, both FREE.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmA2oegX59IvBrK7px79by35mgIw64reGU62w0ei2UB7rGlf775wJnAXwW69lQGQxw1jLEvLCatLPZbpxpWJnuO1zk4SXQrW5tb1iP9VS83o2czDdc7gfIg-D-Oxu54DhAjchnGjDWTdw/s1600/IMG_8783.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmA2oegX59IvBrK7px79by35mgIw64reGU62w0ei2UB7rGlf775wJnAXwW69lQGQxw1jLEvLCatLPZbpxpWJnuO1zk4SXQrW5tb1iP9VS83o2czDdc7gfIg-D-Oxu54DhAjchnGjDWTdw/s640/IMG_8783.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Then I planted a whole bed of broccoli, 16 plants in total. These are nursery grown and frankly they aren't the nicest starts. Next year I am growing my own.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRvdrk4o1bjPvYKLvyzq_4PQHHB7MBL1__fhLpSEaJrVrbrDtOkhifKrE593fTrHW5CvJxRN_WxZ3z7vbNEOUHfyOCBkcas1Egkjd3wudDfXPoFzGKivCtQWIuOLPevsGIdd_Vq1M__Co/s1600/IMG_8779.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRvdrk4o1bjPvYKLvyzq_4PQHHB7MBL1__fhLpSEaJrVrbrDtOkhifKrE593fTrHW5CvJxRN_WxZ3z7vbNEOUHfyOCBkcas1Egkjd3wudDfXPoFzGKivCtQWIuOLPevsGIdd_Vq1M__Co/s640/IMG_8779.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The second last task was the greens. This bed contains Red & Green Buttercrunch lettuce (nursery grown) and Winter Density lettuce, Red Deer Tongue lettuce, Tatsoi and Bok Choy (grown by me). <br />
<br />
The last thing on the list was starting a bunch of warm season crops in the cold frame. Including Yellow Crookneck squash, Lilly Crenshaw melon, Double Yield cucumber, Autumn Crown pumpkin and Baby Bear pumpkin. They were all started in peat pots and will be planted out near the end of May. I thought I would spare you a picture of dirt filled pots :) <br />

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood! We hit 23c(73f), I'm in shorts and it sure was nice to feel some humidity. I didn't do much in the way of gardening today but I thought I would share some photos of my veggie seedlings and some spring flowers in the yard.</div>

Previously I had just used the one I didn't in 2010. I made this one a bit more comprehensive with outdoor planting dates. It's also still a work in progress until I get all the fall planting dates inputted. Once my Four Season's Harvest book arrives I will update it with all the fall stuff.<br />

It would appear that spring might finally be starting. We have been pretty much snow free for 3 weeks now but the temperature has been rather cold for March. The days ahead will be sunny and 4-8c (39-46f) so I planted up my peas. I started 20 peat pots, 3 seeds in each (old seed) and I will hopefully thin to 2 plants per pot. I am germinating them in the coldframe and they will be planted out in 2-4 weeks, pot and all. This year I am only growing snap peas with the particular variety being Sugar Sprint. I really prefer snaps as the harvest is at least twice as much compared to shelling peas. Today I was able to get my fork in the ground and harvest some carrots. We were luckily missed by the last eastern snow storm so the veggie garden is now snow free. I planted these carrots late last summer and they overwintered well. They are super sweet and crunchy, looks like carrots are for dinner! The variety is Sugarsnax 54, Pelleted. <br />

The bulbs are also starting to make an appearance. These particular Snowdrops I dug up from a ditch a few years ago. <br />
The new season is underway. I started my peppers mid February including Anaheim, Pasilla and Ancho peppers. The only ones not doing so well are the Ancho with only two sprouts. The seed was old (2009) so it was expected. I figure I can make due with two plants anyway.<br />
<br />

<br />
Just before the peppers sprouted I got my light up and running. All these plants have spent the winter stuffed in the spare room to save on hydro. They are looking a little raged at the moment but they will perk up shortly. Once they do I'll start propagating them to fill the outdoor containers.<br />
<br />
It is nice to start growing things again! This year we actually had consistant winter weather so it has been a long haul. It will sure be a releif when the snow melts and I can start tending to things outdoors again.<br />
<br />
Keep an eye out for my sowing schedule post, which I should have up by the weekend. Danhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07743102355360873845noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359929230952480074.post-34310936656495145402012-10-19T16:34:00.000-04:002012-10-19T16:34:44.899-04:00Garlic Planted! Fall has arrived so it is garlic time again. This year I am planting at the proper time as appose to last year when I planted in late December, tis tis. I decided to finally give in and order some interesting varieties. It can be kind of expensive to order garlic so normally I would just replanted from the current years crop.<br />
<br />
The bed was cleared, turned and amended with my black gold. Then to speed things along I just jabbed in a trowel and stuck the clove in the hole. I am too lazy to dig a trench this year! I put in 6 varieties this year which I will show below. Then the remaining area was planted with my standby variety that has monster sized cloves.<br />

<br />
To my surprise Wildfire looks like it might be the best of the bunch. It has two huge cloves per head and is suppose to be really hot. Can't wait for next summer when I can give them a try. If you're interested all the garlic came from <a href="http://www.garlicfarm.ca/%C2%A0" target="_blank">Boundary Garlic Farm</a> which has a great selection of organic garlic. I believe they only ship within Canada and you have to order in August, they sell out quickly. Below is a collection of harvests since my last post. The garden is still chugging along and I am happy to have beans coming in again. It has still been really dry, the only good news is the temperature has cooled a bit.<br />

More Dragon Tongue Beans... They are an excellent producer</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and in my opinion the best tasting bean.<br />
</div>
In other news I started a bunch of fall crops in pots a while ago and they are just about ready to plant in the garden. The polytunnel has also been all cleaned up and it is ready to go in the garden. I'll be planted everything this week so I'll get a post up about the fall stuff later this week.<br />

The garden is doing well overall, it is certainly liking all the heat we have had this year. The stars of the show are Tomatoes and Cucumbers! They have been coming on fast. The only warm season crop that I am still waiting on is beans. I should have some Dragon Tongue beans this week but the pole beans are just starting to flower now. Photos follow:<br />

<a href="http://daphnesdandelions.blogspot.ca/2012/07/harvest-monday-july-2nd-2012_09.html" target="_blank">Harvest Monday</a> post so today seemed like a good day to do one. The heat finally broke today so I was able to get some work done that I have been putting off. I am starting to get the feeling it is going to be one hot summer. This should be good for the garden but not so good for the gardener, one can only remove so much clothing. Here is a series of photos of what I picked today:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Today I harvested all the garlic. It seems kind of early to harvest garlic put it was definitely ready. It is a little small this year, likely due to my December planting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtAhqJx1WaZM8YY8VuL5IIYV2mk0OTID-4ROi4RTJUrf8HeuXomcEEp1TyZUSYz4vjCldpljiyf9P4SVraPOukcCTHzYjN4ML836kmcgA6tF3ML61y454gN8k1HX5_NckmUYuEFESfFZc/s1600/IMG_3067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtAhqJx1WaZM8YY8VuL5IIYV2mk0OTID-4ROi4RTJUrf8HeuXomcEEp1TyZUSYz4vjCldpljiyf9P4SVraPOukcCTHzYjN4ML836kmcgA6tF3ML61y454gN8k1HX5_NckmUYuEFESfFZc/s400/IMG_3067.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Amongst the garlic I had a bunch of potatoes come up from last years garden. I swear I got them all last fall :) I'm not complaining though because these mini potatoes will be excellent for dinner tomorrow.<br />

Odds and sods are the first tomatoes of the season, sungold cherries. Along with a few broccoli side shoots and a mini zucchini. These will be added to a salad tomorrow. <br />

Lastly here is a couple heads of broccoli I harvested last week. The broccoli has been great this year. The only issue I have had is I lost a few heads last week to the heat.Danhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07743102355360873845noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359929230952480074.post-87214166503535995802012-06-21T10:13:00.000-04:002012-06-21T10:15:18.224-04:00First Broccoli<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last Tuesday I harvested the first broccoli of the season. Fresh broccoli can not be beat! It was quickly blanched and served with slow roast duck and potatoes roasted in duck fat. All was cooked on the grill as it has been close to 40c(104f) for most of the week. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The garden is doing quite well this season. The only thing needed at the moment is to pull some bolted lettuce and replant the area. I also have a bit of weeding to do. Once that is completed I will post an overdue overview of the garden.</div>

The last section of fencing was completed a few weeks ago and last weekend I completed the new retaining wall. Previous to the fence I had a garden tie retaining wall close to the tree and it had rotted out over the years. So I pulled that out and replaced it will a dry stone wall. All the stones were collected in the country (free!) and then I filled the area with triple mix hauled in by our truck. Once it cools down this weekend I will be dividing plants to fill the bed. <br />

I also put in a few lettuce starts. The broccoli is doing well but it has not been the best season for peas. Hopefully they will catch up soon, it has been really dry this spring. <br />

In other yard news, I have been continuing with my fence building. It has been a long hiatus since completing the north side in <a href="http://veggiegardenblog.blogspot.ca/2009/06/finished-fence.html" target="_blank">2009</a>. This year I am fencing off the entire yard. The back is done as of May 2nd and this week I am planning on starting the south side. Please disregard the sawdust covered patio....Danhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07743102355360873845noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359929230952480074.post-76497483421413275352012-04-10T18:53:00.005-04:002012-04-10T19:52:16.877-04:00Pea'sWell spring is here, so far it has been really dry and relatively warm overall (not today!). On march 18th I started my peas as I always do in rootrainers(Made in Canada!) and germinated in the cold frame. That way they don't rot and the squirrels can't eat them. They are off to the races now and I will soon plant them out under one of the trellises. This year I am growing "Pea Seeds for Peace" that were kindly shared by Yan at <a href="http://seeds.soggycreek.com/catalogue/%20" target="_blank">Soggy Creek Seed Co.</a> Here is a series of photos I took:<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1grFlsl93svgCHpDtZJiNWJWDTRIukmwWuDXGLJZ56ZKw3IqR7brNrSvoAQ5XXNGetDsYXgsXQ45MT1VhyHUm3Bf0cXtEdwbgYiF3jdbxvtTTL2GApo9g3xFTBOTdJJxI3dHDHOWFO_I/s1600/IMG_1904.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1grFlsl93svgCHpDtZJiNWJWDTRIukmwWuDXGLJZ56ZKw3IqR7brNrSvoAQ5XXNGetDsYXgsXQ45MT1VhyHUm3Bf0cXtEdwbgYiF3jdbxvtTTL2GApo9g3xFTBOTdJJxI3dHDHOWFO_I/s400/IMG_1904.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5729911420577651986" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeOlhweRuft5KHZXaQNJVKcQB5_mFDcDMlTtIn357SriDx-oF-urkJLAwZ8GRj721RKQJLsxq_OPazzl9RN9RhI6jDsG_XcE4A2d8RHbfLbtC5DsEjdBCmaCU19BiMIPKAsaoT3YUSOO8/s1600/IMG_1902.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeOlhweRuft5KHZXaQNJVKcQB5_mFDcDMlTtIn357SriDx-oF-urkJLAwZ8GRj721RKQJLsxq_OPazzl9RN9RhI6jDsG_XcE4A2d8RHbfLbtC5DsEjdBCmaCU19BiMIPKAsaoT3YUSOO8/s400/IMG_1902.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5729911417712147682" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDI8sJS1Esvc6_NKqADk6b2JF_aS4q5iJkN49FIn8eKV4UnXkqwSR-b2-VDlcKtWB0cXPvYvpY6II2cT2vAVPMt6h31SihJWxV5r5Uf3uCKWw8AgVeWUhv2oCu-L4Q3kIz4ZEZAzEclPY/s1600/IMG_5875.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDI8sJS1Esvc6_NKqADk6b2JF_aS4q5iJkN49FIn8eKV4UnXkqwSR-b2-VDlcKtWB0cXPvYvpY6II2cT2vAVPMt6h31SihJWxV5r5Uf3uCKWw8AgVeWUhv2oCu-L4Q3kIz4ZEZAzEclPY/s400/IMG_5875.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5729911816045311714" border="0" /></a>I first presoaked the seed and then planted them out. 23<br />days later they are ready for planting. This year I am going for a less fussy garden so I just planted out a whole bed of the stuff. The bed is mainly planted with a large cloved hard neck variety, the farmer it came from calls it Elephant garlic. I also put in a few soft neck cloves that have a purple skin.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5EoyVT98anKVJruBIRkeo4fups_emC_5Z3DaOlFHlCum3BMj4deyHA4erMn5nShXZy2zpf-A8l0UXKgnsm_OpqI-6oZu0IDeH2YTngOtta1DrMEanLiD_dj_8ADbhZ6Lj5ZxSW1QS9ag/s1600/IMG_0925.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 288px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5EoyVT98anKVJruBIRkeo4fups_emC_5Z3DaOlFHlCum3BMj4deyHA4erMn5nShXZy2zpf-A8l0UXKgnsm_OpqI-6oZu0IDeH2YTngOtta1DrMEanLiD_dj_8ADbhZ6Lj5ZxSW1QS9ag/s400/IMG_0925.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5714309663197418690" border="0" /></a><br />The garlic is now just starting to pop up. Today I started a few cells of hardy greens including mixed lettuce, kale, winter density lettuce, red pac choi, tatsoi and bright lights chard. They are now on a heat mat and at the first signs of life they will go out in the coldframe.<br /><br />Soon things will start ramping up in the garden so I will actually have something to post about. First things on the to-do list is getting my grow light set up and completing a garden plan. Once mid March rolls around I will be starting all the tomatoes, peppers, brassica's and peas. Here's hoping this season is better then last!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqIXnrxFEHV6EkChK2nAka6ZVTfPbxYwpx2jjIXPKZjZWpf7uaS-NF8AAKznX7d7GhKU01MBeCRAeAXdLGlb7GHcdNw9JvzUEI3pOx45S4SSGguoQNoCgE75b21hhSI_O77YjXUTBnA_s/s1600/IMG_0937.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 316px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqIXnrxFEHV6EkChK2nAka6ZVTfPbxYwpx2jjIXPKZjZWpf7uaS-NF8AAKznX7d7GhKU01MBeCRAeAXdLGlb7GHcdNw9JvzUEI3pOx45S4SSGguoQNoCgE75b21hhSI_O77YjXUTBnA_s/s400/IMG_0937.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5714309663605547362" border="0" /></a><br />To wrap this up, the snowdrops made an appearance a couple weeks ago. The harvest was a little dismal. I didn't plant a lot of them and what was planted had a rather low yield. The ones I planted in my half-barrel did the best by far.<br /><br />This weeks main garden task will be to plant the garlic. It is rather late to plant garlic but in the past I have had good results from late plantings. I also have to get my season extenders in the garden. I cleaned them all up last weekend. There is not much point in planting them at this time but I should be able to get something growing in them by late February.<br /><br /> At the moment all that is growing in the garden is broccoli. I'll have to check what is worth harvesting this week.<br /><br />Happy Gardening Everyone!Danhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07743102355360873845noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359929230952480074.post-44754307317374338012011-10-31T01:25:00.004-04:002011-10-31T01:51:28.953-04:00Some PhotographyAs mentioned in my last post, I have been shooting like mad for the past few months. UpdateIt sure has been a while since I have done a post! The garden has slowed considerably in the past few weeks and I have been consumed with photography this season, hence the blog neglect. Overall this season was so so, good thing there always is next season. There is not a lot left in the garden at the moment, the only thing ready for harvest at the moment are potatoes & peppers. In terms of fall crops I never got around to starting any so the garden will be quite quiet this fall. There is a nice patch of spring broccoli that is starting to produce again though and I will at least try to sow some fall greens. Everything needs a good clean up as well including the blight stricken tomatoes. Below are a series of harvest photos I found on my drive, taken since my last post.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim_5oPrmYYpV0z8zAAt8-wyC2bAOtGSt4tPjfptbZ826UbF8nTBRxyZ7i617W42SwINjKb-ljOdgrAdvJixVyVriZtxLgW_W2jU3-Ko4pppr64kpKH0HgPkTDQTcgGVV8MzAS7F_RbJsU/s1600/IMG_3485.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim_5oPrmYYpV0z8zAAt8-wyC2bAOtGSt4tPjfptbZ826UbF8nTBRxyZ7i617W42SwINjKb-ljOdgrAdvJixVyVriZtxLgW_W2jU3-Ko4pppr64kpKH0HgPkTDQTcgGVV8MzAS7F_RbJsU/s400/IMG_3485.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5662849052155289746" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiI2r5CcLGv2tZ0mdJl7zwM-0d4C-HWYes3h6ItuoHrk12ZOvSSFih7l5ykWsAPvNjdn-P_bhAPJ5ZjbOosBw4RDSvGSxhZ96z2Gbnt5qcw0L44iRKAc4egm3Eoox8AYQobZXjWk7smic/s1600/IMG_1712.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiI2r5CcLGv2tZ0mdJl7zwM-0d4C-HWYes3h6ItuoHrk12ZOvSSFih7l5ykWsAPvNjdn-P_bhAPJ5ZjbOosBw4RDSvGSxhZ96z2Gbnt5qcw0L44iRKAc4egm3Eoox8AYQobZXjWk7smic/s400/IMG_1712.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5662848961607109042" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Dm_Xm9yyp3mYk-Zla1R4t9j8D2SxBPWklx5j3S83dIyuq9HYa3JxuluZxPeNComev7okM3-s22DxKvhyphenhyphenpV6oIRV0ps-k-3szVXJdwMj-B_xDeq_5hCXk2NklLwniFybVqsmi_CaJqZg/s1600/IMG_1706.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Dm_Xm9yyp3mYk-Zla1R4t9j8D2SxBPWklx5j3S83dIyuq9HYa3JxuluZxPeNComev7okM3-s22DxKvhyphenhyphenpV6oIRV0ps-k-3szVXJdwMj-B_xDeq_5hCXk2NklLwniFybVqsmi_CaJqZg/s400/IMG_1706.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5662848947994440738" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAToO2kTvL0gCSpwhG-6IzF1J1d5bvRXrzYHVBbrwGpXSixxMdm9hxhRFbh27YBVcgvMECM1xWeYwNgd4u5foWxmZ8SNsJuf4OO8e3Z-LErTCaAu1_lgcT08sjgOlWmwYm0zQkquzJ3Ak/s1600/IMG_1699.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAToO2kTvL0gCSpwhG-6IzF1J1d5bvRXrzYHVBbrwGpXSixxMdm9hxhRFbh27YBVcgvMECM1xWeYwNgd4u5foWxmZ8SNsJuf4OO8e3Z-LErTCaAu1_lgcT08sjgOlWmwYm0zQkquzJ3Ak/s400/IMG_1699.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5662848942105679634" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh887tCxQtM6aIpgZaqca66d6uI-Z3NYfvpOGAwVBrsJVCpZgJKTH_Ixhb45xfSLEXKFRZ6s4VfZLHyM5vltloa_enC8o-8fpKTm6o4JWWTuyH2aanzh2XYWuf7n0PAUZJy5RYhzozihl4/s1600/IMG_3479.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh887tCxQtM6aIpgZaqca66d6uI-Z3NYfvpOGAwVBrsJVCpZgJKTH_Ixhb45xfSLEXKFRZ6s4VfZLHyM5vltloa_enC8o-8fpKTm6o4JWWTuyH2aanzh2XYWuf7n0PAUZJy5RYhzozihl4/s400/IMG_3479.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5662848965471002130" border="0" /></a>Danhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07743102355360873845noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359929230952480074.post-16085516534579930642011-08-29T22:42:00.002-04:002011-08-30T01:57:48.803-04:00Harvest Monday<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEMNLcuQsD3RhVY8S5qQefEdtJ6DpiDOZ89sfYTKIcSy7MUskXanRiehSVzXgzJwNZ6NelFx1NTUyaw1-Wlefjd-pvUFZipo8Fc9Tt5rdaEMUwysVZ9IyNkNpvr0WEZW3r0z2YSngLNxQ/s1600/IMG_0781.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEMNLcuQsD3RhVY8S5qQefEdtJ6DpiDOZ89sfYTKIcSy7MUskXanRiehSVzXgzJwNZ6NelFx1NTUyaw1-Wlefjd-pvUFZipo8Fc9Tt5rdaEMUwysVZ9IyNkNpvr0WEZW3r0z2YSngLNxQ/s400/IMG_0781.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5646430122031576818" border="0" /></a>This weeks <a href="http://daphnesdandelions.blogspot.com/2011/08/harvest-monday-august-29-2011.html" target="_blank">Harvest Monday</a> includes the following:
<br /><ul><li> Two Roman Candle tomatoes, grown from seed shared by<a href="http://engineeredgarden.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> EG</a>
<br /></li><li>Two Feuerwerk tomato</li><li>Two Mortgage Lifter tomatoes (Excellent tomato, the one is the size of two hands!)
<br /></li><li>A bunch of Japanese Black Trifele tomatoes</li><li>Two Cherokee Purple tomatoes</li><li>One Pink Berkley Tie Dye tomato</li><li>A bunch of Velvet Red cherry tomatoes</li><li>Three small heads of my funny looking broccoli</li><li>Three Adam's Gherkin cucumbers</li><li>A couple handfuls of Dragon Tongue beans</li></ul>The garden has really started coming into its prime now. It has been a long wait but at least it is starting to pay off. Next week should bring some potatoes, peppers & green pole beans. The pole beans have taken ages, I planted them at the end of May and they are just starting to set now! Good thing gardening teaches patience.....

As you will see below I am finally harvesting tomatoes. It has been a painful wait this year. I should really learn to not grow all late producing heirloom tomatoes one of these years....
<br />
<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAjonY9LS4qMrUhvXK6dMvpISgvWZOEY0Qp6vPHNbkaOVmhiZhTotMwQtRFxq9aX43wHifzVBBb9EsSAKJKbFuHnEbhqKrwPTR9Yy9PuiaULHqSyou_osidTu0EYAhc6Olv0AHZ1V9KMM/s1600/IMG_8635.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAjonY9LS4qMrUhvXK6dMvpISgvWZOEY0Qp6vPHNbkaOVmhiZhTotMwQtRFxq9aX43wHifzVBBb9EsSAKJKbFuHnEbhqKrwPTR9Yy9PuiaULHqSyou_osidTu0EYAhc6Olv0AHZ1V9KMM/s400/IMG_8635.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643870765848619394" border="0" /></a>Here we have Feuerwerk, Pink Berkley Tie Dye and Japanese
<br />Black Trifele tomatoes. There also is a group of Adam Gherkin
<br />cucumbers. I am really not fond of the cucumbers. They taste
<br />good but they are really prickly to pick, like a cactus.
<br />
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiynEuLDHdDhtleu82ocwiSMp1u6Bpg8q4bH7pR1Xqxdn7yA7lXSMS6lDEtzuznQAsWYEa3AJKtJkwTq7hx_q6RDlE1qPGhYJSkOE_JeBDIcXn3nd7GVgdWlPH5cS3Kvz-DCU9ROaoUfF0/s1600/IMG_0146.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiynEuLDHdDhtleu82ocwiSMp1u6Bpg8q4bH7pR1Xqxdn7yA7lXSMS6lDEtzuznQAsWYEa3AJKtJkwTq7hx_q6RDlE1qPGhYJSkOE_JeBDIcXn3nd7GVgdWlPH5cS3Kvz-DCU9ROaoUfF0/s400/IMG_0146.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643873005778929026" border="0" /></a>This basket-o-maters includes Giant Belgium, Cherokee Purple,
<br />Japanese Black Trifele and Pink Berkley Tie Dye tomatoes.

<br />These truly are the best tomato ever made and the first one
<br />of the season! Even though the yield is very low I keep growing
<br />them because they taste so good.
<br />
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzow2DDPojzK_EPFmdKBL06aRpvI1N7zwUcSJOQG76vYZ5eyATZzaCc7N2hSz7frLvDpx5f8ZV0pdOUokEA6IUvgUlIrWFPO9kqsmWKnDBXPJ8QSTJv3ixfML9Qb0cHCGYW2q_QIkNeQM/s1600/IMG_0156.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzow2DDPojzK_EPFmdKBL06aRpvI1N7zwUcSJOQG76vYZ5eyATZzaCc7N2hSz7frLvDpx5f8ZV0pdOUokEA6IUvgUlIrWFPO9kqsmWKnDBXPJ8QSTJv3ixfML9Qb0cHCGYW2q_QIkNeQM/s400/IMG_0156.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643873016918139330" border="0" /></a>Lastly a couple heads of my strange broccoli. They are all
<br />growing heads like this this year. It is almost like it wants
<br />to turn to cauliflower. Tastes fine at least.
