Baltimore Oriole

The Orioles started feeding from the hummingbird feeder today. This was the first time I had seen them at the feeder. It seems they can get some nectar out but the ports are pretty small from them. Maybe we will set up an Oriole feeder now, I have heard they like nectar, oranges & grape jelly. This feeder looks like it fits the bill.

In garden news it has been pretty uneventful lately. I have a few things that really need to be planted but I have been slacking. I have still been taking care of everything in the polytunnel though. Hopefully everything will be in by the weekend even though the farmers almanac says it is a barren time from the 19th-23rd.

  1. Nice pic Dan....I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one slacking lol...I have fallen behind schedule on my home garden...seems like I weed it and then by the time I tend to the other garden its time to start all over again!

  3. We had the same experience with the Baltimore Orioles. We bought the feeder and they went crazy over it for the rest of the year. They haven't been back since.

  4. Beautiful bird, never seen them in this area but we do enjoy the other many varieties that do parade through our property each year.

  5. Beautiful! Giving the birds a leg up is one of my favorite things to do out in the garden. Last year I had goldfinches on my red sunflowers.

  7. They are such beautiful birds. According to the breeding map, I should see them here too but I can't say that I have. :(

  10. What an amazing colour! I wonder if they are like flamingoes who need to eat shrimps to stay pink. You can feed your orioles oranges and marigold flowers!

  11. Ooo lucky you capturing the attention of the oriole! My parents have been trying to feed them for years -- they hear/see them around but the don't have any interest in their feeders.
