A huge head of Oak Leaf Lettuce. About the size of two tomato cages.
My monster Broccoli plants that are almost dwarfing the ugly a/c unit.The front corner is late planted Romanesco Broccoli & Kohlrabi in the middle.
The weedy grassy things are onion sets.
The Topsy's are doing well with this one being the largest. This plant isChocolate Stripes and is actually visible when photographed in low light.
Mister Early in my palm, not huge but I'm content for such an early tom.
The 'Green Arrow' Shelling Peas. They are about 36" high andfull of blooms and wee peas.
The broad beans are also about 36" high now.
The last big thing I could find is the garlic. They all have really thickstems and flowers that I am supposed to pick off.
That is indeed ONE BIG Oak Leaf lettuce plant! Holy smokes... what have you been feeding that thing?!

ReplyDeleteThat lettuce is uncanny! lol Please tell me your lettuce secret. I just pulled all of mine recently. I guess you thinned them out as they got bigger? I noticed another kind of lettuce next to the Oak Leaf. How far apart do you end up spacing them?
ReplyDeleteThis is the first year that I've planted broccoli, and I'm amazed at how big they're getting without even seeing the heads beginning to grow.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice way to hide the a/c unit though! What with all your resourcefulness, you should build something around the unit to conceal it! Hubby and I are considering doing that ourselves, but maybe I just need to relocate the broccoli. :)
